UPDATE: USS FITZGERALD & PHILLIPINE CARGO SHIP (STA BREAKING NEWS and ARCHIVES)

by pravdaseeker @, Saturday, June 17, 2017, 05:55 @ Theresa

Dear STA Readers, Writers,

7 sailors are "missing". The accident took place at 2:30 AM.

The destroyer basically got "T-boned" on it's starboard side, right in line with the bridge superstructure. Close to mid ship point.

It boggles my mind that this accident happened.

Were they all asleep on the bridge? Didn't their radar give them some damn warning? What sort of evasive manoeuvres took place? ETC ETC ETC...

The cargo ship has some damage to it's bow...damn little damage really.
The destroyer is crumpled like a empty beer can.. on the starboard side. A miracle more were not killed, or "missing".

Many questions still to be answered. Was the captain asleep in his cabin when this happened? Got out of his rack moments before the collision, rushes to bridge, just in time to get T-boned by a cargo ship??? The captain got airlifted off the ship to a hospital in Japan, head injuries, cuts and bruises, etc.

WHOEVER was in charge of the ship is most likely facing a court martial...
and their career in the Navy is toast.

Sad thing to see happening, hard to imagine such poor seamanship really...

Searches were on for any survivors... some sadly are probably crumpled up in the twisted metal, and will find them as they go into repairs...

One wonders what sort of radio traffic took place prior to this accident...
