NORTH KOREA SOON ACHIEVES NUCLEAR AMBITIONS (STA BREAKING NEWS and ARCHIVES)

by chazzz @, USA, Sunday, March 19, 2017, 15:37 @ Theresa

The nuclear weapons work started under Kim Jung Un's father. It appears probable that it and their missile work will probably converge on a working nuclear arsenal and long range missiles by the end of this year - at least in modest quantities.

North Korea has never stopped preparing to re-fight the Korean War that began in 1950. They have let it be known many times that an attack on North Korea will be treated as full scale war. They have long range artillary and a lot of short range conventional rockets already aimed at South Korea. The only truly functional orgainization in North Korea is their military. They are an extream case of funneling everything they have into military preparedness.

While North Korea's current missiles cannot reach any US states, they can hit US troops stationed in South Korea and Japan and it is speculated they could reach US facilities on Guam. North Korea has also been working on submarine launched missiles that could theoretically threaten mainland USA - at least near the coast.

NY Times - Risks of Preemptive Strike on North Korea

I think it is clear that if there was to be a preemptive strike on North Korea:
(1) It has to occur before they have weaponized nuclear weapons.
(2) It has to be overwhelming and wipe out the government, all nuclear weapons facilities, and missile facilities. And it should wipe out the pre-positioned artillery and rockets aimed at South Korea. Given the time North Korea has had to harden their facilities, I doubt these could be accomplished without multiple precision nuclear strikes.

Time is fast running out on preventing North Korea from becoming a nuclear power. In my opinion, the bigest downside to North Korea becoming a nuclear power is they might get most sanctions lifted and might sell the weapons to well financed terrorist groups like ISIS or other dangerous nut jobs. MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) only works with countries having capitals and fixed assets. It's a lot harder to reach a balance with terror groups or religious fanatics intent to helping God or Allah bring about the apocalypse.
