As Iceland’s glaciers melt its land has started to rise (STA BREAKING NEWS and ARCHIVES)

by Northern1 @, Iceland, Tuesday, February 03, 2015, 03:11 @ pragnos

Hi Pragnos

Every glacier in Iceland is reseeding rapidly and we can be pretty sure
that they are mostly melting from the top down because of two facts.
The average temperature has risen significantly since the mid eighties.
The climate is changing, whether this is due to periodic warm stages
or global warming is of little consequence, it is actually happening
and our glaciers are melting at an increasing rate, all of them,
not just the ones with volcanic activity underneath. Those that are on
top of volcanically active areas are thoroughly monitored. When heat
rises under a glacier the glacial rivers increase their flow, this
occurs regularly as does sub glacial eruptions which cause flash flooding.

It is perhaps conjecture to state that release of top pressure initiates
eruptions, but it does make sense if it does and we actually have one
local instance which supports that idea. Krafla is a volcanic area
in the north east, a site of Iceland´s first geothermal power plant.
A borehole came into contact with molten lava and resulted in an eruption,
one of many in the coming years in that area.

A fun fact for you. Iceland is responsible for one third of the
total lava output in the world in the last five hundred years.
Conjecture. If this continues at this rate, Iceland will be the size
of North America in a couple of million years.

Have a good one :-)
