As Iceland’s glaciers melt its land has started to rise (STA BREAKING NEWS and ARCHIVES)
Yeah, we´re on the up and up and that will come in handy countering
the rise in sea levels due to all the glacial melting here and elsewhere.
Another factor is accelerating the melting, dark volcanic ash collecting
on top of the glaciers causes the ice to absorb more heat from sunlight
causing more eruptions and so on.
Bárðarbunga shows no signs of slowing down,
more than five months since starting erupting, the lava field is now
80 square km and getting very thick as it piles on top of itself.
Reykjavík has not experienced much gas pollution lately because of
westerly winds, but some days are quite bad in the north, east and south east.
Scientists have had to flee the site on occasion because gas masks
can´t do the job they are designed for, it seeps through somehow.
Have a feeling that when this one is finally over another one will
start shortly after and then another. Something to get used to i guess.
