The prince is 93 or 94 yrs old. I think this was just knob polishing going on.

Surely there were others that deserved this honour other than a British Royal.

Australia has drifted back and forth, to consider becoming a REPUBLIC, which reminds me of a ONCE UPON A TIME REPUBLIC that has turned into a fascist oligarchy quasi Democratic cesspool. A once mighty ship of the international seas that NOW has lost its rudder, its sails in shreds, and has more holes in its hull than a vegetable colander.! Yes, I am referring to the USA. But I digress..

At one time the Oz public was around 50% wanting to go REPUBLIC, and break free of the CROWN...and polls NOW claim it is about 38%... who knows really.

The Governor General is a weird "god like" position. Ability to dissolve entire governments, sack Prime Ministers in a heartbeat; and VETO any law that the CROWN does not agree with.

Is my understanding of this APPOINTED position correct my dear friend gimp?

Correct on all accounts. The Govner is nominated by the new ruling party and old Queeny gets to sign off on the deal which she has never failed to do thus farly. The Whitlam government lost their trousers in 1975 after the GG... John [the well named] Keer declared by the "Powers" vested in him to decree.. the properly elected government of STRAYA.... LEGALLY NULL AND VOID. Now that's a travesty and a blight especially considering the insult was inflicted from what we once thought were close allies.

Was the knighthood thing, a pre-emptive favour gaining gesture; for some crisis down the road? An attempt to reduce the hit Oz must take during WW3 maybe, or City of London bailout for Oz for the upcoming financial meltdown? etc etc etc???

All I know is the knighthood thing went over like a turd in the punchbowl at a church social with Parliament..LOL

All I can hope is it somehow further reduces the chances that the Liberal Party will be re-elected in the soon arriving snap election! Newman sucks like a Hoover in my opinion. How Orwellian can you get? LIBERAL Party are the REPUBLICANS of Oz, conservatives.

My REAL disappointment is that I can NOT vote yet!! I got to wait til I take the citizenship oath in exactly 2 years from today. I REALLY wanted to get my 2 cents worth in on this election. At least then I got grumbling rights eh?

I will be eligible sooner, but need to wait until "STRALIA DAY 2017 swearing in ceremony to be a REAL OZZIAN. Well, as close to the real McCoy that I can.
