BABBLING, THINKING OUTLOUD ABOUT YOU AND ASKING... (STA BREAKING NEWS and ARCHIVES)

Hi Friends:

January is typically a bad time, for retailers, for ad companies as well as for donations. Most people are tapped out from Christmas.

This January has been EXTREMELY bad for donations. So a lot of things are now past due. This includes the server and internet access charges that MUST be paid or the site will disappear.

Additionally (and this is always hard every year because of the timing) the domain renewals are due, they are yearly. These are not allowed to be even ONE MINUTE late or they are pulled. Without the domain name you are essentially off the internet because no one can find you without a domain name.

So, I really need you to step up to the plate now. Understand that no amount is too small. Every bit helps. SO if you don't think you have much to offer, YOU DO. I've said it so many times, like a broken record, if everyone who reads here chipped in just 5.00 per month there would be MUCH MORE THAN NEEDED TO SURVIVE.

So, here I am once again asking you to think about what this site means to you. Perhaps it is just one of the many places you go on your internet travels and don't feel that you use it enough to warrant donating. That's ok. But also think about if you do use the site a lot, If you have learned anything from the 16 years we have been here on the internet, Or perhaps think about the community of friends here - some wander in and out - but are always close by. Think about the amazing and large archives. Have you looked back at them recently? It's so much fun to do so. TOGETHER we have put together quite a time capsule of this crucial time that we shared coming from the late 90's on through the millennium and up to now.

STA was one of the earliest alternative news sites. SO many of those who were here and colleagues have passed on, but their words, thoughts and feelings still exist here.

I think of the many friends that I have made through this site. Many who will be friends for the rest of my life. People who, had I just seen them on the street, I would not have thought we were of the same mind, nor would they have thought that of me. But through this magical medium where there CAN exist "total communication", we have communicated mind to mind without all the cultural stigma interfering with our thoughts.

How many of you remember when John Lennon and Yoko Ono came out to a press conference dressed totally, from head to toe in bags? And the press was, of course perplexed and NO ONE understood what was going on.

John kept saying "this is total communication".

NOW, I get it. It is communication with mind, without the stereo-types that get in the way of us talking to someone. Not distracted by what they wear, their hair, their make-up or whatever. That may not be what they meant but that is the way that I understand it NOW.

Anyway, I digress.

I really need you to step up and chip in this month. Like I said, everything is past due and the domain name renewals are due next week and there is NO grace period for those, So, I need you now.

The week started off hard for me, with yet another fall and a call to the fire dept to have firemen come and lift me back into bed. I felt so hopeless. BUT I have been going back and reading the archives here, and that somehow renewed my spirit. SO many of you have been here for YEARS, I am so proud of you, so proud to call you friend. SO grateful that you are in my life. I don't tell you that enough and I will try to do so more often but I do CHERISH YOU.

OK, so I'm babbling a bit but despite all the bad that is in the world when I look at the love that so many of you have shown and continue to show me, I can't feel down.

Take a trip down memory lane in the archives. Even if you are new here you will find some very interesting things.
