HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF BLUE JELLYFISH INVADE SURFERS PARADISE, AUSTRALIA *VIDEO, PICS* (STA BREAKING NEWS and ARCHIVES)

by pravdaseeker @, Saturday, January 17, 2015, 19:06

Dear STA Readers, Writers,

This is right outside gimps front door, or just down the street to the beach.

"A giant swarm of blue jellyfish has invaded the pristine waters of the Gold Coast, forming a spectacular display as the mass of creatures congregated in Queensland's iconic Surfer's Paradise.

Spotted just off Narrowneck, near the northern end of Surfer's Paradise beach, the school of jellyfish extended for 50 metres in circumference.""

I saw this invasion firsthand, when over the New Years holiday I went by car ferry to an island in the bay east of Brisbane. Moreton Bay is its name.

The car ferry is pretty slow moving, and I got out to catch a cooling sea breeze, (summer here, and it was BLOODY hot), and check out the water as we motored along. I noticed that the entire bay was infested with these same jellyfish in the video above, as far as the eye could see, and for almost all of my journey. I stopped looking at the water, because it was nothing but jellyfish. The main body of the jellyfish, were about the size of a large fist.

They were so thick in the water I wondered if they would clog up the cooling water piping to the ferry engines.

Moreton Bay is a very large area of water, and the area in the pics and video are at the far southern end of this bay area, which is gimps neighbourhood. I don't know if the wind and currents pushed all of those jellyfish I saw into the bottlenecked area where gimp lives or not. If NOT, then gimp should be looking for TONS more to be coming his way soon.

I was astounded at the amount of jellyfish in the water! And i found out that yes, they can give you a bad sting.

This is not good news for the city where gimp lives, as it relies on tourist trade money to help ends meet. People flock to the Gold Coast for holidays, to sunbathe, and go swimming and surfing, boogy boarding, etc..With these infesting the surf, there won't be any folks in the water; and the beaches will get pretty messy, and walking and accidentally stepping on them will leave you with a painful foot sting.

Folks will look elsewhere for a holiday, and the economy of the region will suffer as a result.

I read an article recently that said how all of the oceans were becoming a perfect environment for jellyfish populations to explode. This was due to pollution, Fukushima, loss of jellyfish predators, water conditions that jellyfish just love developing, etc. It is like a perfect storm for jellyfish to go bonkers and be everywhere in huge numbers.

Looks like gimp won't be doing much swimming. I know he likes to take a daily dip or two, and this must be disheartening for him.
