While reading an incredible book about the history of the Bush clan, Russ Baker's, Family of Secrets, I discovered the fact that the Houston oil patch thugs, and Poppy, had locked in the rights to explore and drill almost all of Cuba and its offshore territorial waters. They had already discovered vast deposits and had moved offshore drilling rigs into place when Castro overthrew Batista, cancelled all previous deals and nationalized the oil.

Many decades have now passed and it now appeared that Russia and China were prepared to go ahead and finally tap those rich oil and gas reserves. Whoops! We can't have that. "That's OUR oil you commie bastards!" Suddenly Washington wants to make nice... especially after Russia reactivated its old electronic listening post on the island.

The Castros are surely smart enough to know that once trade and diplomacy is normalized, a US embassy full of spooks, and a gaggle of NGOs fomenting regime change color revolution will swarm all over the place.

Given the no attempt to conceal involvement in the US ham fisted coup in Ukraine, I'd wager the Castros will negotiate a very well protected agreement... and the first sign of CIA nonsense will have some yanks in the Havana gaol. Cuba resisted US imperialism for over half a century. I doubt they'll be the pushover our masters of the universe anticipate.

OK then, off to brew up a nice cup of Cuban coffee.
