Thanks for reminding us of the bold stupidity that is at the wheel these days. There are more power players in this mix. There is a 3-way stare down going on among Russia, Saudia Arabia, and USA over oil prices, production, and preserving the petrodollar. If we recall the rhetoric between Russia and the Saudi's before the Olympics, it is clear their is great enmity between them. The Saudi regime is old, unpopular, and tottering so they are refusing to cut production to show strength. Seeing that they are the end member in the "Arab Spring" Domino chain, my money says when the smoke clears the Saudis will have been destabilized and their production curtailed enough to allow the price to float up to a more friendly level. Oil export dependent economies Russia included want high oil prices and oil importing economies like China and India want low oil prices. There will not be WWIII over this. It is high stakes gambling and the strong cards will prevail. The Saudis only have oil and money and friends in these times can become too expensive even for them. This is why our Gov. is cozying up to the Shia power Iran who will become the new strong man on the Persian Gulf.
