BEWARE: MANY POPULAR CONSUMER PRODUCTS AND FOODS ARE LOADED WITH BRAIN-DESTROYING ALUMINUM (STA BREAKING NEWS and ARCHIVES)

STA readers;

Aluminum is definitely toxic and it has been in our food supply from day one because it is the third most common element in the earth's crust and soils. The linked article is a bit clumsy and has a couple of errors, but the scientist Chris Exley at Keele University seems to be real enough and dedicated to the study of aluminum ecotoxicity first in salmon and now in humans. This is a topic I also have been following for many years. Healthy people have a certain ability to excrete the aluminum from our food and water, but as we age on our western diets our kidney function declines as we slip into the pre type II diabetes condition and the aluminum begins to accumulate (diabetics have higher risk for Alzheimers). In recent years several compounds in our diet have been found that help aluminum cross the blood brain barrier including fluoride and maltol a flavoring additive.

Kidney dialysis patients have clearly been poisoned even killed by aluminum and fluoride toxicity when tap water was used on the permeate side of the membranes. I think clinics are now required to use distilled or deionized water in their dialysis machines to avoid this route for aluminum transfer to the blood. The complex that aluminum forms with fluoride passes the blood brain barrier and can catalyze methylation reactions and cause protein agglomeration though I haven't seen this reported yet it follows from the use of aluminum compounds in water treatment to remove fine suspended particles including micro organisms (usually a good thing).

It is impractical to prevent ingestion of aluminum in food and water, so we have to figure out how to make sure it is not accumulating. We do need to challenge our medical professionals to help us figure out how serious this toxicity really is and to start measuring it and removing it from our systems if our kidneys are no longer up to the task. I am sure it is a contributor to dementia, but it probably isn't the primary cause. There are still other factors that need to be identified and studied for prevention and treatment methods.
