Sorry to here natures sulfate aerosol climate modification experiment is really hurting people up your way. Sulfur dioxide is god awful to inhale! The direct emissions from the volcano may be sulfur vapor and/or hydrogen sulfide which is the highly toxic gas. If they are hot enough they will readily oxidize to sulfur dioxide. Inhaled sulfur dioxide forms sulfite complexes in our systems which can trigger all manner of unpleasant symptoms starting with asthma like lung congestion. Some people are deficient in the natural enzymes needed to detoxify sulfites. These enzymes require molybdenum, Mo, to work and some people's diets are deficient in Mo or they have too much copper Cu which competes with Mo in our body's chemistry. It might help to take some extra molybdenum supplements and/or eat lots of lima beans to help the body increase the sulfite detoxifying enzymes. Solgar is one supplier I have on hand.
