IT COULD BE 600,000,000 (STA BREAKING NEWS and ARCHIVES)

In today's Coping section on Urban Survival, George Ure speculates that the global death total for Ebola could eventually reach 600 million at 70 to 80 percent in third world countries. I recommend reading the entire column.

Near the end of his treatise, he says some claim Gaia is conscious and will get even with us for despoiling her. I always remember the population studies done in the early 60's using rodents in a closed system. The same pattern always repeated.

X amount of rodents were placed in a contained environment and supplied with the same amount of water and food every day. At first, when resources were greater than the number of rodents required, they were happy and reproducing like crazy. Eventually, the number of rodents exceeded the resources and fighting began. Reproduction continued, but slacked off a bit. As the container became overcrowded, and fighting continued, disease set in, then cannibalism.

As time passed, the combination of violence and disease reduced the population to below what could be sustained by the resources, and the cycle started over again.

I submit that neither Gaia or God or such is punishing us. IMO they are sitting back and watching as we do this to ourselves. I hope they are not laughing.
