MAYBE....BUT!

1)"Yes! But would it be effective against The Sunburn Onyx???"

It will be effective against the Sunburn. The RAM missile is supersonic when it leaves the tube. The Rolling airframe travels through the air like a bullet. It has a spin which stabilizes its flight, and makes it extremely maneuverable. The block 2 upgrade has improvements aimed specifically at the newer versions of the sunburn. I think it is interesting that the author of the article fails to mention the RAM system.[/color]

When the Stark was hit by those exocet missiles, the Navy had a completely different philosophy towards anti missile operations. Aegis was new and Navy protocol was TOO SLOW for fast missiles. The assertion that the radar missed the missiles is untrue (there was some contraversy at the time). It was a procedural failure that day. Their strategy, and tactics, I promise you, have evolved substantially since then. In modern times, the launch of a missile is very difficult to hide. The US has dedicated satelites with optical, radar, and IR and also (wink wink, nudge nudge). The navy deploys AWACS early warning radar (those airplanes with the big disc on top), Fleet protection EWS FLIR (foward looking INFRARED), FA-18, F-14 anti missile, fighter patrols. The carrier fighters would like to be escorting anything that comes within 200 miles of the carriers. As a last resort, the Navy puts out Frigates and Destroyers as "pickets" to each side, front and rear of a carrier. Their job is to take a hit in order to save the carriers.

Good points Qwibqwib.....however, as much as it may seem easy to big up The US Military, they have yet to face the kind of threat in combat: thought to be waiting for them, should they be foolhardy enough to bomb Iran.

In theory it may seem to their military planners; strategists, and enforcers that they have got anything that either Iran, or Syria can throw at them covered.
How about Russia, or China??? Would The US Gulf Naval Fleet be able to cope with a sustained counter attack from those 2 great world powers...should they (Russia & China) decide to defend Syria & Iran to the bitter end???
I totally doubt it!

What is more what if Iran; Russia, and China decide to go after US troops in Afghanistan, and destroy all of NATOs bases there???
From what I've heard in recent years, The US Anti-Missile Defense System has proved to be something of a Red Herring: turning out to be pretty useless against much of anything in actual operation.
Perhaps it has been improved since....however, I for one would not want to chance my arm on such a suspect system!

WHY do you think that The Chairman of The Joint Chiefs, and other Top US Military Brass are vehemently insisting that no military action is taken against Iran regardless of the spurious claims that Iran may be very close to perfecting it's 1st nuclear weapons?

If you ask me, then I reckon The Top US Military men have already done the war simulations, and probably realized that a victory would be impossible against such a determined axis of Nations?
