I REALLY DON'T THINK SO

by chazzz @, Friday, September 14, 2012, 19:58 @ Theresa

Sorry, but I think I smell BS or at least gross exaggeration. We don't have to rely on rat studies - We have thousands of years of human history to use as a guide. The last massive collapse of the human species was during the "Black Death" when something like half the population of Europe eventually died before it had fully run its course. Did Europe become completely depopulated? No, of course not! In fact, for the descendents of the majority of the survivors the result was that people were counted less as property of the nobility and more as assets who had value. I'm not saying that mass death is a good thing - Just that humans are an adaptable and resourceful species.

Short of an astronomical extinction event I do not see the likelihood of humans as a species vanishing from this earth for a very, very long time. There will be wars, rumors of wars, economic hardship, and even at times revolution - But I have confidence that humanity will continue for quite some time.
