Its not uncommon for mail services to ask you if you want to link to FB and others, but you can decline their offer. They assume that 'everyone' has a FB account! I don't and many here dont.

I suggest that you look over GMX Mail. www.gmx.com. They will off you FB links at first and you refuse it. GMX has been very reliable and delivered me zero downtime over the past two years, together with a slick GUI.

Good luck in your search. Whoever you sign up with take time to look at EVERY pop-up you are offered and avoid an automatic yes click. Just say no to anything you dislike.
