Where the heck is all the money? You know how it is always said "Follow the money"...?

Spain, Italy, the US, Great Britain, Greece et al.... What I am getting at is how can all these countries be going broke.... mostly at the same time? Where is the money?

I know I am revealing myself as an ignorant citizen of this world by asking this... and I also know I will most likely learn something if I ask a question.

I just don't get it. I have a "blind spot" if you will... will someone please explain to me the mechanics behind this phenomenon? I can't figure it out, since I don't have a lot of experience with economics, esp. in relation to goverment...

If someone could please explain this to me in pedestrian terms it would be most appreciated. I am confused as to how and why this is happening?

Are so many people out of work that there aren't enough taxes coming in? Or is it something else....

Like I said.. it it like a cypher to me... and I feel very ignorant and uneducated that I cannot answer this question for myself... I wouldn't even know where or how to begin researching it....
