ORBIT ALERT:STRANGE SIGNALS 1420 MHZ + RADAR + SETI?

DEVELOPING....

ALERT: WEIRD VIBES......

Kent Steadman CYBERSPACE ORBIT
has just posted the following information about a strange radio signal being heard at 1420mhz. Interestingly enough there is also a current radar anomaly that it seems MAY be connected. I have saved the animated version of the radar anomaly and posted it here because the images are updated regularly at the source (http://weather.unisys.com) and therefore disappear.

From Orbit:

Hi all. I hear a strange signal at 1420mhz, 1,420Ghz. Its the H freq. Its bandwidth is from 1418 until 1440mhz. Sure it is not ISS or low orbit satellite cause the signal is very stable for many hours and very strong 9++. What this signal can be? You can also watch the topic at sci.astro.seti and hear the signal at alt.binaries.radio-scanner. sound.wav [use loop mode]

Following Kent's referral to sci.astro.seti, the term "waterhole" is mentioned in relation to 1420 MHz.

Searching google on the keywords: "the waterhole" +1420, brings up many hits. It appears that 1420 MHz is a favorite frequency for SETI :

There is also natural emission from the hydroxyl (OH) radical at 18 centimeters. Now if you combine hydrogen (H) with the hydroxyl radical (OH) you get water (H2O), so the wavelength region between 18 and 21 centimeters is often referred to as the "waterhole", in further allusion to the fact that galactic civilizations might (like radio amateurs) gather around this "waterhole" to chat like different species of animals gather around an African waterhole to drink.

Summary:

Interstellar hydrogen (H) emits at 21 centimeters.

Interstellar hydroxyl (OH) emits at 18 centimeters.

The wavelength region between 18 and 21 centimeters is called the "waterhole".

Many SETI searches are made in the "waterhole".
Notes:

Waterhole wavelengths:

Hydrogen line (H): 21.1 centimeters (1420 megahertz)

Hydroxyl lines (OH): 18.3 centimeters (=1638 megahertz)

So, are we all wasting valuable PC time in listening at all
those many 10Hz bins etc. so advocated? Would a much
more sensitive search be done by just listening to 1420 MHz,
and wait until ET's TX signal 'sweeps' by?

In fact, perhaps we only need to monitor somewhere near
to 1420 MHz, and await the Doppler effect on ET's varying
freq. signal to sweep him right into our waiting laps!

As Kent so stated "weird vibes....."
